How to safely use Retinol in summer
Retinol is a form of vitamin A and is the main HERO ingredient in our 0.25% Encapsulated Retinol Serum. Retinol is widely researched with benefits ranging from fighting acne to smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving texture and brightening the skins appearance. Retinol has quickly become known the absolute go-to ingredient for positive ageing and 2023 is going to be no different.
Can Retinol make you sensitive to the sun?
While applying daily sun protection is a must no matter what your routine, it’s even more critical when using a retinol serum. This is because retinol is known to cause sensitivity to ultraviolet light because of the way it brings fresh undamaged cells to the surface of the skin. This doesn’t mean you have to stop retinol in summer however, you don’t want to miss out on its benefits for 3 months.
Instead, always use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Apply your sunscreen on all exposed areas of skin and reapply as directed on the packaging. This is usually 2-3 hourly. Always supplement your sunscreen use with additional sun protection measures such as wearing protective clothing, seeking shade, sunglasses, hats and avoiding peak sun hours.
Your skin is beautiful, don’t let it become damaged.
When introducing a Retinol its important to do so slowly. Read more on our "Ready to start using a Retinol, The Complete How To Guide" here.
