Acne
There are many causes of acne, including genetics, hormonal changes that affect sebum production that often occur during puberty and menopause. Other factors that can trigger acne include stress (increases cortisol), some medications, touching your face, using the wrong skin products, pollutants and other external aggressors. Food can also be a major factor, especially some dairy products, whey protein, highly processed and high sugar foods.
For individuals who suffer from occasional breakouts to those with more persistent acne, we have two products formulated to combat acne effectively to leave you with clear skin that you feel confident in.
Vitamin B3, B5 and Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum
The first product is The Vitamin B3, B5 and Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum. This serum can be used morning and night and has an array of ingredients that are going to nourish and repair the skin. Dehydrated skin can cause an oil imbalance as your skin increases sebum production to help lock in moisture. Hydrating the skin with non-oily products full of ingredients that will repair the skin barrier and lock in moisture. Ingredients like 12% Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) which helps regulate oil production through the production of ceramides which create a strong skin barrier while also acting as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory to calm and soothe the skin. Along with helping to produce ceramides we also include ceramides within our serum to help repair and protect the skin barrier, allowing it to better protect our skin from external aggressors such as pollutants that can build up on the skin. Packed full of humectants to attract water, such as Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium PCA and Polyglutamic acid. As well as emollients to assist in retaining water within the skin including Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) and Glycerine. The combination of these ingredients aids the skin by addressing inflammation and hydration while regulating oil production and maintaining a healthy skin barrier, all of which are a priority when managing acne.
While some people who are breakout prone shy away from hydrating their skin as they feel dry skin means less oil, in fact it can mean the exact opposite as your body tries to compensate by producing too much, so always hydrate with our lightweight, non-occlusive serum.
0.25% Encapsulated Retinol
Secondly, The 0.25% Encapsulated Retinol should be incorporated into your nighttime routine 2-3 nights a week and can increase as tolerated. Retinol is proven to improve cellular turnover while also stimulating collagen synthesis to improve the strength of our skin. Our serum contains 0.25% Encapsulated Retinol and while some other serums boast a higher concentration of Retinol due to the stability created by encapsulating our retinol, this is better absorbed than unencapsulated retinol allowing it to reach deeper layers of the dermis to allow for incredible results all while minimising the risk of irritation. The retinol is working deep within to dermis to promote cellular turnover and shed dead skin cells that can lead to congestion and breakouts. The stimulation of collagen can help with skin texture and reduce the appearance of acne scarring. This serum is formulated to be well tolerated by all skin types with nourishing ingredients such as Aloe Vera Extract to calm, sooth and hydrate the skin, Willow Herb Extract that gently exfoliates, calms redness and reduces oiliness and Green Coffee Seed Extract to moisturise, soften and smooth. With the addition of Ferulic Acid, an antioxidant that enhances the efficacy of Retinol while protecting our skin from pollutants and free radicals.
Retinol is often feared by individuals with acne prone skin due to the dreaded purging that occurs when you introduce it. This can discourage some from continuing with a retinol, but the purging should only last a couple of weeks and the benefits you see after this are well worth it. Purging occurs due to retinol increasing cell turnover, this removes dead skin cells and excess oils deep within our pores. Because the retinol is bringing this to the skin’s surface you may experience short term breakouts. After this temporary flare up, you will then experience the benefits of retinol for reducing breakouts
