Melasma
It can be persistent and challenging to treat but with our Saint Louve serums, we are able to noticeably improve its appearance. It is also important to note that melasma is a chronic condition which means the symptoms can reappear, therefore it important to stay on top of the condition with consistency in skincare and the use of SPF.
The serums in the Saint Louve 4 Step System are designed to work harmoniously to improve your complexion, brightening the skin and reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation caused by melasma.
Vitamin B3, B5 and Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum
Our Vitamin B3, B5 & Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum is formulated with a range of ingredients that will nurture and nourish your skin, creating a stronger barrier and lessening the effects of external stressors that can stimulate melanocytes.
With 12% Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), with proven ability to improve the strength of our skin barrier by stimulating the production of ceramides which make up a large portion of our skin barrier. It is also shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which can inhibit melanosome transferring from melanocytes to keratinocytes which reduces hyperpigmentation. Along with 1% Vitamin B5 (Panthenol), Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and Glycerine that aid in superficial and deep hydration of the skin while also reducing trans epidermal water loos. We also include Ceramides in the serum to strengthen the skin barrier further. Protecting the skin with a strong skin barrier and hydration helps to reduce the effects of environmental damage which can stimulate hyperpigmentation in those with melasma.
15% Vitamin C Lustrum Serum
Following every morning with our 15% Vitamin C Lustrum Serum which boasts 5 potent forms of Vitamin C to create a highly effective, well tolerated level of antioxidant for the skin which helps protect against free radicals and oxidative stress. Along with 15% Vitamin C, our serum also contains Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E, more antioxidants that aid in photoprotection of the skin, each of these actives enhances the antioxidant properties of the other creating visible improvements to skin brightness while protecting from UV induced damage. Ferulic Acid also further aids in stabilising Vitamin C.
Along with ingredients likes Arbutin that inhibits melanin production and Milk Thistle and Bearberry Leaf Extract, natural calming extracts that provide further antioxidant protection and skin brightening properties. By limiting the damage of free radicals to the skin while also inhibiting melanin production, this serum gives visible brightening results. We also include Hexylresorcinol due to its superior skin brightening qualities and Uplevity Firming Peptide, which as its name suggests, helps to firm and plump the skin through collagen synthesis as well as assisting in collagen and elastin assembly, improving the quality of the extracellular matrix.
0.25% Encapsulated Retinol
We then have you introduce the 0.25% Encapsulated Retinol Serum of an evening. Extensive studies have shown that Retinol increases cellular turnover which is shown to naturally decrease as we age.
Retinol works on reducing superficial pigmentation through this increased cell turnover, encouraging the presence of new skin cells that have had less exposure to melanin production. Studies have also found that retinol suppresses tyrosinase which is an enzyme required in melanin production. While other Retinol Serums on the market boast a higher concentration of Retinol due to the stability created by encapsulating our retinol, this is better absorbed than unencapsulated retinol allowing it to reach deeper layers of the dermis to allow for incredible results all while minimising the risk of irritation. In addition, this serum contains Ferulic Acid and Coenzyme Q10 which help to even skin tone and lighten dark spots, as well as 4% Niacinamide to protect the skins barrier and aid in the reduction of the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
12% AHA BHA Exfoliating Serum
Exfoliating the skin with our 12% AHA BHA Exfoliating Serum designed to be a leave on serum 2-3 times per week will help to break down older, pigmented cells and promote newer, undamaged cells resulting in improved appearance of melasma while also creating smoother looking, soft to touch skin with the combination of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Beta Hydroxy Acid. These include 5% Lactic Acid (an AHA) derived from milk, which removes dead skin cells from the surface, promoting cell turnover, creating a brighter appearance and refined texture. With 2% Mandelic Acid (an AHA), derived from almonds which allow for further exfoliation and cell turnover while being gentle on the skin thanks to its large molecular size. Then we add 2% Glycolic Acid (an AHA) derived from sugar cane which has a smaller molecular size which can exfoliate deeper into the skin. We include Salicylic Acid (a BHA) derived from willow trees, that works by dissolving build up deep within the pores to helping to minimise congestion and inflammation that can worsen melasma symptoms.
