How to help your skin adjust to a different climate

How to help your skin adjust to a different climate

Whether you’re jet setting of overseas for an endless summer or heading off to enjoy some of our beautiful winter landscapes we have some tips and tricks to keep your skin glowing no matter the climate. As we shift through seasons, we must adapt our skin care regime accordingly.

ENDLESS SUMMER

Now who doesn’t love the long summer days, getting outside in the fresh, warm air (wearing SPF always of course). So it’s no surprise everyone loves breaking up their winter with a warm holiday when we can. For the warmer climates here’s what you need to know:

Skip congestion: In warmer months the humidity tends to be higher and we natural sweat more as it heats up, so we suggest switching out your rich moisturiser for something more lightweight. This will allow for hydrated skin whilst feeling comfortable and minimising congestion. The risk of congestion increases in the summer months as we sweat more, have an increase in oil (sebum) production and a build up of impurities on the skin so it is more important than ever to stay on top of exfoliation. Our 12% AHA/BHA Exfoliating Serum is our go to for keeping skin silky smooth as the combination of acids removes dead skin cells, excess oils from the skin surface as well as decongesting pores. Incorporate this serum into your routine 2-3 times a week.

Hydrate: Now as we mentioned, lightweight hydration is key to beautiful skin in the warm summer month. Our Vitamin B3, B5 & Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum is an everyday essential to keep your skin looking plump and hydrated all summer long. Its beautiful lightweight formulation is easily absorbed and provides instant hydration. With a high concentration of hyaluronic acid to absorb and hold moisture in the skin along with niacinamide to protect our skin against the elements. This product can be used morning and night to provide 24/7 hydration.

Brightening up your day: A good quality vitamin C is a must under the summer sun. With elevated UV levels Vitamin C is going to fight free radicals and protect our skin against sun damage. Saint Louve’s 15% Vitamin C Lustrum Serum is formulated with 5 types of Vitamin C in airtight packaging to keep the actives stable to ensure the best brightening results. The product is complete with brightening hero’s such as Ferulic Acid, Bearberry Root Extract and more to reduce pigmentation, sunspots and freckles caused by time in the sun.

Last but not least: SPF! It is the number one anti-ageing product on the market and as the UV increases over summer, we need to make sure we are wearing no less than 50SPF and reapplying throughout the day. Also a broadbrim hat to cover your face, neck and decolletage as you relax on a sunbed along the European coastline will never go out of fashion.

WINTER WONDERLAND

For those who are making the most of the cooler months at home or hitting up the slopes, our focus shifts into nurturing our skin and maintaining moisture. The drop in humidity causes harsh, dry winter air, paired with increased time indoors with artificial heating is a recipe for dry, flaky skin if we don’t take the proper measures.

Bye to Dry: To fight dryness, we recommend using the Saint Louve Vitamin B3, B5 & Hyaluronic Acid Serum morning and night to replace moisture lost in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is known as a humectant which absorbs water and acts as a sponge to draw moisture into the skin. Pairing this with a nice rich moisturising cream will help keep your skin plump and glowing through those dull winter months.

Don’t be afraid to exfoliate: As our skin can feel increasingly dry in the winter months some people steer away from exfoliating as they are lest worried about congestions however it is still important to exfoliate around twice a week to aid in removing dead skin cells and congestion. In doing so you will not only keep your skin nice and smooth but this also allows our actives including our Retinol and Vitamin C to be better absorbed.

Bright winter skin: Now we mentioned that Vitamin C is a summer nonnegotiable but here at Saint Louve we love using the 15% Vitamin C Lustrum Serum year round to continue to lighten pigmentation and brighten the skin. Who doesn’t love a summer glow in winter? You also have the added benefits of Squalene (Read our Squalene for President Blog to see why it gets our vote) which will help to lock in moisture for a bright, dewy glow.

Keeping warm: With the cold weather comes the temptation of hot showers and with this the risk of damaging the skin barrier and causing irritation and additional dryness.

Sunshine on a rainy day: SPF should be continued throughout the winter months, especially when using active skin care ingredients. Even when you can’t see it the suns UV rays can penetrate through the clouds. Also, if you’re heading to the snow the UV rays reflect off the snow causing increased risk of sun damage.

Drink up: Finally, hydration is queen all year round as healthy skin starts from the inside out. By maintaining adequate hydration we are keeping our skin moisturised from the inside which allows our skin care to achieve even better results. This is especially important in winter when we our skin becomes more dry and we are more tempted by a hot cup of coffee than water. Be sure you get your 2-3 litres in per day every single day!

These little tricks for the changing seasons will keep your skin looking best all year round no matter when or where you are.
